For the Interpretation project we had been given Pantone as our outcome subject and were working with the quote ‘The love that lasts the longest is the love that is never returned.’ We decided to stick with the idea of stalking and used a great number of methods to reenact the concept. We followed our house mates, using digital methods such as facebook, and followed strangers in public places. I even stalked myself by recording my every move.
Our final outcomes were a collection of ‘stalking journals’ which contained images of where our chosen ‘stalkee’ had been on their route followed by a full page of a colour they were wearing or that was in their immediate surroundings. This project was one of my favourites this year as we came up with an unusual concept and implemented it in a very intriguing way. Stalking people was quite exciting. I was nervous about getting caught as I wouldn’t have a leg to stand on but the images in the books that we all produced were brilliant. My favourite image was taken from outside of a house looking in to the kitchen. The image conveys a sneaky feeling and puts the viewer in the position of the stalker. The undirected details in the image, such as the Virgin Mary statue and the bars on the window, add character to the photograph.
As a collective piece, the final books were great. The swatches at the beginning of each of the books work really well. They act as titles or barcodes to each person who’s movements are monitored in the book. The stock was also a brilliant choice, the books give a very sensitive, none-obvious reflection on stalking. Our group was successful and we came 5th out of 13 groups so we were above average. I am really happy with our outcomes and I like that we each get to take away a piece of the finished outcome just as we took information from unsuspecting friends. We have dispersed the collection and who knows where each part will end up but I feel there is something very romantic about this. As the group leader, I did really well in keeping everybody motivated and ensuring that decisions were made without procrastination. I also created the powerpoint which presented our project very well. This was good practise for presenting my portfolio and having completed this project I have some strong work to present.
